Solid hardwood is the same timber all the way through, so it can be sanded back and refinished many times over its life. Engineered wood has a real wood top layer bonded to a layered core, which makes it more stable when temperature and humidity change. Both look like real wood because they are real wood on top.
Usually, yes, but the product matters. Engineered boards are generally the better choice over underfloor heating because they move less with heat. We will check what you have and recommend something that suits it.
For a lot of homes it is. Good laminate is hard-wearing, handles kids and pets well and costs less than real wood. It cannot be sanded and refinished like hardwood, so it is worth talking through how long you want the floor to last.
Wood takes on moisture from the air around it. Letting the boards settle to the room's conditions before they go down cuts the risk of gaps or lifting once the floor is in and the heating comes on.
Flat, dry and sound. Uneven or damp subfloors are the main reason wooden floors fail early, so we look at what is underneath before we quote and tell you straight if anything needs sorting first.
